Google continues to improve its search system to make it the most user-friendly and convenient. Its new technology lets users search and utilize mobile apps without downloading them. The Daily Dot gives the following explanation of this new functionality: “If you’re in need of a hotel and you need it quickly, Google will allow you to stream Hotel Tonight, giving you access to the information that you need from the app without requiring you to wait for it to download and install.” Today, just 9 apps have this solution.
Why This Is a Big Deal
Scott Huffman, Google’s vice president of engineering and a leader of the project, says, “This is potentially a big deal because it can make apps instantly available the way websites are. Users don’t want to think about whether the information they need is in an app or not and whether it’s worth downloading, they just want the information”. Recently Google has launched special app recommendations from other providers to help customers find the best apps for their needs. Hence, the new solution of tapping apps without downloading is another step in the same direction.
If app developers want to integrate this technology in their products, they will have to build in code that will work with Google’s indexing engine.
How App Developers Will Benefit from This Innovation
VentureBeat writes, “As that happens, app publishers get a chance to create a first impression right inside one of the most popular apps on the planet – the Google search app. Create a great first impression and you have the opportunity to have users fall in love with your offering and download the full app”.
The WSJ report based on the numbers from the App Annie Index: Market Q1 2015 shows that Google Play had 70% more app downloads than Apple. This way, the popularity and success of Google mobile solutions are indisputable as new innovations are continuously appearing and regularly pleasing app users.
